What a difference five months may create.
Had these rankings run in October, the Sacramento Kings definitely would have held among the smallest spots. They had been a 55-loss mess just last year, and nobody had even hinted at breakout possible. Zach Randolph, who has not logged a second this year and was traded then waived in February, paced that team with 14.5 points per match.
But now, the Kings are making a case for the NBA to make a Most Improved Team award.
The two De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield found ways to fast-forward their development. The former is a scorer and also top-five three-point shooter. The latter is one of only 10 players averaging seven assists and 17 points. The frontcourt combo of Harry Giles and Marvin Bagley III is loaded with promise. The game acts of bogdan Bogdanovic like tissue. Harrison Barnes is your jumbo.
The Kings have the wiggle room to purchase this summer, even though they will have to wait and see whether this roster that is improving is what eventually draws on free brokers. They do get dinged for not possessing their pick, but at least frees the franchise to make an all-out push for the postseason.
